Summer Schedule

Saturday, June 13th during breakfast Andrew said, "I think today is the day I'm going to ride a bike all by myself." So Steve and him went out after breakfast and guess what a few minutes later they came in to show me -- he was a riding guru. He and Ellie went to the church and rode around for 30 minutes and then he went riding again later that day. He was super sad we didn't make it to the trail that day so Monday morning we went for a ride on the trail and he did great (one little scare because he was still learning to brake and there was a down hill into those gate crosses that about gave me a heart attack -- he ended up ditching his bike, whew and then we practiced braking more).

For Family Home Evening that night we watched the Layton Temple Groundbreaking and talked about how much we miss going to the temple. We need to be doing more family history work so we're ready when we can attend again.

This week we're trying to get in our summer schedule routine.

So far it's gone well, the kids are motivated to get their checklist done so they can do their daily learning activity on the computer then free time on the computer. One-on-One time has been fun too: Marcus and I "build" with legos and then went for a drive to pickup Greek takeout (which had french fries so he was excited); Andrew had time with Dad and took apart and old tech item in his office; Lila has been having a lot of one-on-one time with me going to dance competitions so she opted to watch another Good Luck Charlie with Ellie the day of hers; Ellie and Steve fixed an old computer together (Steve is excited that he might get some projects done during her time 😂) I also thought we could do a Mom & Me book club so we started reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and plan to discuss it once a month during her time.

Our first Cooks and Books day was a success. We made pizzas which was nothing really new but the kids really liked reading the books that went with it. One of them was The Little Red Hen makes pizza and when it got to the part where the Hen tossed the pizza in the air I asked who was going to do that and Ellie responded, "Not I." very apropros.

After pizza Steve and I decided to go on a date hike (we were inspired by our adult hike in Tahoe). We went up to Davis Creek trail and took the little side trail to the first waterfall.

On all trails it showed there was a loop that reconnected so we decided to take that up and around. . .well it was super steep like I was on my hands and knees climbing and when we got to the top there was a trail marker there saying that was was steep and dangerous -- that sign was not at the bottom. We had a good time with a couple of more adventures and a rope climb part down to a 2nd waterfall (which by the way was not any steeper than the other part that we did and it did not have a rope, ironic).

Summer is going to be a little different this year, but we're going to make the best of it and do our best to enjoy the time we have together!
